Filling in forms for users

Skavelo can open the right screen and enter the details a user gives, then leave the final click to them.

When a user asks Skavelo to do something and gives the details, such as "Create an invoice for Harbor & Co for 500 EUR, due 30 November", Skavelo doesn't stop at explaining. It walks through the task itself:

  1. It opens the right screen, clicking links, tabs and buttons like New invoice on the way.
  2. It enters each detail the user gave, in the matching field.
  3. It stops on the button that finishes the task, such as Send invoice, highlights it, and says "Check the details, then click Send invoice."

The user checks what's filled in and makes the final click. Nothing is saved or sent until they do.

This needs no setup. It works from the screens Skavelo has learned, on every plan.

What Skavelo never does for the user

  • The final click. The last step is always left to the user.
  • Anything that changes data on the way. Skavelo won't click a button labelled like saving, sending, creating, deleting, paying, inviting, pausing or confirming, even partway through. The walkthrough waits there for the user instead.
  • Invent details. Fields the user gave nothing for are left empty for them to fill in.
  • Delete, cancel, pay or change billing. For these, Skavelo explains how instead.
  • Passwords and file uploads. These are always left to the user.

If the user clicks Back during the walkthrough, Skavelo stops doing steps for them, and they continue by hand.

Which fields it can fill

Skavelo fills standard form fields: text, numbers, dates, dropdowns built with <select>, checkboxes and text areas. It enters values the way typing would, so apps built with React, Vue and similar frameworks see the change.

Some apps build their own dropdowns or date pickers from plain elements. Skavelo can't operate those reliably, so it highlights them and asks the user to choose. Every other field is still filled.

Actions or form filling?

Actions call your API directly and need a developer to set them up. Form filling needs no setup and uses your own screens, so your app's validation and confirmations still apply. When a switched on action does the task, Skavelo offers the action instead.
