SkaveloHelp Center

Add your website and web app

Teach Skavelo from your help docs, public website and the product itself.

Go to the agent's Learning tab and click Add website. Each website is one of two types.

TypeWhat Skavelo does with it
Help docs or websiteReads public pages such as a help center, docs site or marketing site, and uses them to answer questions.
Your web appReads the product itself, and also maps its screens, buttons and fields so it can draft walkthroughs.

Enter the address

Enter where Skavelo should start, for example help.yourproduct.com or app.yourproduct.com. Skavelo starts on that page and follows links on the same domain.

As you type, Skavelo checks the address and tells you if there's a problem, such as a typo in the domain, a page that requires sign-in, or a site that's temporarily down. You can still save a site that's temporarily unavailable; Skavelo will try again when it learns.

Add a test account, if needed

If the address opens on a sign-in page, Skavelo switches on This app needs a login. Enter the address of your sign-in page and a test account's email or username and password. See Signed-in apps and test accounts.

Adjust the advanced settings, if needed

SettingWhat it does
Page limitThe most pages Skavelo reads from this website in one run. The default is 50, and you can set up to 500.
Only read these pathsLimit learning to part of the site, for example /docs/*.
Skip these pathsLeave out part of the site, for example /blog/*.

Enter one path per line. A * matches anything after it. Leave both empty to read the whole site, up to the page limit.

Save

Saving starts a learning run immediately. You can follow it live on the Learning tab.

Managing your websites

Each website appears as a card on the Learning tab, showing how many pages and pieces of knowledge it contributed and when it was last read.

The switch on the card controls whether the website is In runs or Paused. Paused websites are skipped until you switch them back on. The card's menu has these options:

OptionWhat it does
Learn what changedRuns learning now, reading only pages that changed since the last run
Re-learn every pageReads the whole site again, for example after a large redesign
EditChange the address, test account or advanced settings
Open websiteOpens the site in a new tab
DeleteSkavelo forgets everything it learned from the site, and its pages leave the product map. This can't be undone.

What Skavelo reads, and what it skips

  • Skavelo respects your site's robots.txt. Pages it asks crawlers to avoid are skipped and listed in the run's activity.
  • It only follows links on the same domain as the address you entered.
  • In a web app, it never follows links that look like log out, delete, remove, unsubscribe, cancel subscription or deactivate.
  • It can't reach private networks or addresses such as localhost. Use your public staging or production address.
