# Import from OpenAPI (/docs/skills/import-from-openapi)

If your API has an OpenAPI description (OpenAPI 3 or Swagger 2, in JSON or YAML), you can add lookups and actions from it instead of creating each one by hand.

<Steps>
<Step>

### Open the import [#open-the-import]

On the agent's **Skills** tab, click **Import from OpenAPI**. Enter the file's address, such as `https://api.yourproduct.com/openapi.json`, or paste its contents if it isn't public.

</Step>
<Step>

### Choose what to add [#choose-what-to-add]

Skavelo lists every operation, grouped as in your file:

- `GET` operations become **lookups**, so Skavelo can read a user's data to answer.
- Other operations become **actions**, which users approve before they run.

Each one keeps the summary, description and parameters from your file. Choose the operations users are likely to ask about. A few well described lookups work better than all of them.

Operations Skavelo can't use are listed under **operations can't be added**, with the reason, for example a request body that takes a list rather than simple values.

</Step>
<Step>

### Add them [#add-them]

Lookups can start switched on. Actions are always added switched off, so you can check each one before turning it on.

</Step>
</Steps>

After importing, open a few and improve the **When to offer it** text. Your file describes what an endpoint does; Skavelo also needs to know which questions it answers.

Running the import again marks operations you've already added, so nothing is added twice.
